Iranian blockbuster ‘The Salesman’ has garnered the Swedish Film Institute's Guldbagge Award for the Best Foreign Language Film.

‘The Salesman’ by Oscar-winning Iranian filmaker Asghar Farhadi was crowned at the 53rd Guldbagge Awards ceremony, presented by the Swedish Film Institute.

The ceremony was held at Cirkus in Stockholm and broadcasted live.

Previously, Asghar Farhadi’s ‘A Separation’ won Guldbagge Award (Gold scarab) for the Best Foreign Film. This is Sweden's most coveted cinematic prize.

‘The Salesman’ narrates the story of a young couple played by Shahab Hosseini and Taraneh Alidousti who move into a new flat. An incident linked to the previous tenant dramatically changes their life.

The flick has also won double awards for Best Screenplay and Best Actor at the Cannes Film Festival.

The Swedish Film Institute Foundation aims to promote films from around the globe by organizing the annual Guldbagge Awards which is described as the Swedish equivalent of the Academy Awards.
